The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is getting an extension called the "Baby Bob Bridge"
ABOUT
The Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge that connects Iowa and Nebraska is getting some super exciting updates! This includes an extension, of the bridge called the “Baby Bob”, which will make it easier for visitors to access the riverfront. This new pedestrian bridge will improve access for visitors at the convention center, ballpark, arts district, and several hotels to enjoy the Riverfront revitalization on both the Omaha and Council Bluffs sides.
CONSTRUCTION PLANS
Baby Bob Bridge will connect to the Bob Kerrey Bridge, where visitors can choose to go east over the river or swirl around the loop to gain easy access to the Omaha Riverfront. Rising gradually from 10th and Fahey Streets, which is just north of the CHI Health Center, the Baby Bob Bridge will take pedestrians over the railroad tracks that separate the North Downtown area and the recently renovated Lewis and Clark Landing.
UPDATES
In March of 2023, the Omaha City Council approved $6 million for construction of the expansion. The Baby Bob Bridge was originally set to be completed in late 2023, but due to steel beam shortages the completion date has been pushed back. The estimated time to complete it will be a year and a half, so it will hopefully be done sometime in 2025!
